Rollie Nation
Website re-design
Situation
Having recently established a comprehensive design system for Rollie Nation, the next significant step was to apply this system to the creation of our brand new website. The goal was to build a digital flagship that not only showcased our lightweight and stylish footwear but also provided a seamless and engaging user experience, all while ensuring brand consistency and future scalability. My role was central to this, leading the design of the entire website based on the foundational elements of the design system I had meticulously crafted.
The homepage design served as a prime example of how the design system could be effectively applied to create a compelling and engaging user experience. I strategically combined various components, type styles, and colour styles to create a visually appealing and informative entry point to the Rollie Nation brand and product offerings. The layout and flow of the homepage were carefully considered to guide users through key information and encourage exploration of the website, all while adhering strictly to the established design system principles.
By designing the new Rollie Nation website based on the design system I had created, I ensured a cohesive, efficient, and scalable digital presence for the brand. The system provided a solid foundation for both the initial website build and any future updates or expansions, ultimately contributing to a stronger brand identity and a more positive user experience.
Tasks
-
To create a logical and user-friendly structure for the new website that facilitates easy navigation and allows users to quickly find the information they need.
-
To create visually appealing and functional templates for the most important website pages by strategically applying the established type styles, colour styles, and UI components from the design system.
-
To populate the website with actual content (text, images, videos) within the designed templates, ensuring a visually balanced and engaging user experience while adhering to the design system.
-
To ensure the new website provides a seamless and accessible experience across all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile) and for users with disabilities.
Actions
-
This careful planning laid a strong and user-centric foundation for the entire website. By establishing a clear and well-organised information architecture early on, I ensured that the subsequent design and development phases were built upon a solid structure.
-
This deliberate use of the design system significantly accelerated the design process and guaranteed visual and functional consistency across the entire website. By utilising pre-built and tested components, I avoided redundant design work and ensured that all interactive elements behaved predictably. This not only saved considerable time but also contributed to a unified and professional look and feel, reinforcing the Rollie Nation brand identity throughout the digital experience.
-
The careful selection and integration of visuals and text enhanced the user experience, making it easier for customers to understand the features and appeal of our footwear and ultimately driving engagement and purchase consideration.
-
This commitment to responsiveness and accessibility ensured that the new Rollie Nation website would provide a positive and inclusive experience for a wider range of users. By optimising the design for different devices, I catered to the increasingly mobile-first browsing habits of our customers.
Results
The most immediate and impactful result was the creation of a website that felt distinctly "Rollie Nation." The consistent application of the defined type styles, colour palettes, and brand imagery across all pages resulted in a visually harmonious and professional online experience that strongly reinforced our brand identity. This cohesive look and feel built trust and recognition with our customers.
The modular nature of the design system and its application to the website provided a robust and scalable foundation for future growth and expansion of Rollie Nation's online presence. Adding new features, creating new landing pages, would be significantly more efficient and consistent thanks to the established design language and component library.
